How Caroline Breeding Built a Business That Empowers Clinicians—and Changes Lives

Caroline Breeding’s path from loyal employee to bold founder is marked by a deep commitment to both people and purpose. After nearly a decade scaling someone else’s business, she launched Intuitive Learning Solutions to revolutionize education for post-acute clinicians. By prioritizing empathy, innovation, and impact, Caroline shifted from dreamer to doer—experiencing defining moments that made entrepreneurship unmistakably real. As part of our Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur Spotlight series, her story is a testament to what happens when passion meets resilience, and how thoughtful leadership can transform industries and lives alike.

Hi, Caroline Breeding! Thanks for joining us today. Tell us about your business. Who do you serve, how do you serve them, and what's the impact that your business and work makes?

At Intuitive Learning Solutions, we’re on a mission to change the way healthcare professionals in post-acute care—like home health and hospice—learn. Our courses are designed by clinicians for clinicians, making sure every course gives the right regulatory knowledge and clinical tools to help professionals feel confident in their interventions. We break down complex topics and offer interactive materials to keep learners engaged throughout the process. Ultimately, I hope the impact of our courses goes beyond just compliance, creating an environment where clinicians are excited to learn and equipped with the tools they need to achieve great patient outcomes.

Tell us about the moment you finally felt like you went from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur.

I don’t think there was one defining moment when I thought, “I’m an entrepreneur.” Instead, it was a series of experiences that made me stop and realize the weight of the responsibility I carried for my company and my employees. The first time it really hit me was when I saw my name on a paycheck for an employee. That moment stands out, and I still remember the overwhelming feeling of knowing that I had people depending on me to make this company a success. It was a shift from just dreaming to realizing that I was there.

Another pivotal moment came when I was on the phone with a family member of a patient who was in tears, explaining that they couldn’t afford the co-pay for their grandfather's care because their son was undergoing chemotherapy. In that moment, I listened to their concerns, and without hesitation, I told them not to worry about the co-pay and that we would take care of their grandfather. The ability to make decisions like that, ones that directly impacted people's lives, was unforgettable. That was when I truly understood the profound impact of what I was doing. It wasn’t just about business anymore, it was about making a difference in people's lives.

Describe the moment or period in your life/career that motivated you to make the entrepreneurial leap.

I remember that moment vividly. I had spent nine years working for an employer, helping to grow her company from just 10 contracts in one state to over 120 contracts across 12 states. I was traveling constantly, dedicated to the business, but over time, the CEO and founder became more focused on the money than on the people who were actually building the company. The turning point came when she became furious over a small grammatical mistake in a newsletter and threatened to fire me over it. My apologies weren’t enough.

After spending nearly a decade helping her grow her business, I realized in that moment how little she truly valued me and the contributions I had made. That weekend, I sat down and wrote my first business plan. I promised myself that no matter how big my company grew, I would always value and appreciate the people who helped me get there.

Describe a tool, service, or software that has been a game-changer for your business. How does it contribute to your success?

One tool that has been a game-changer for my business is our Learning Management System (LMS) platform, Talent LMS. It has completely transformed the way we manage, and deliver our courses. The ability to provide interactive, engaging, and accessible content to clinicians whether they are in the office or in the field treating patient has been pivotal in the success of Intuitive Learning Solutions. The platform allows us to track learner progress, customize content, and ensure that every clinician has access to high-quality education at their own pace.

The second tool is Articulate 360.  With Articulate 360, we’re able to create more dynamic and immersive learning experiences that truly capture the attention of our learners. It has also streamlined our development process, enabling us to quickly update content and make improvements based on user feedback.

We know that success is very often a non-linear path. Tell us about a failure, pivot point, or lesson that changed your course or direction and helped to get you where you are today.

I've been fortunate throughout my career to have most of my companies become successful and profitable. However, as we scaled, there were some locations that didn’t take off as we had hoped. Early on with my companies, we would start by conducting a SWOT analysis—reviewing our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats—and from that, we would develop an action plan to address any issues.

What I learned, though, is that more often than not, the biggest factor affecting our success was leadership within the agency. Changing leadership could be difficult and disruptive, but in many cases, it ended up being the turning point that led to a healthier work environment and ultimately, better outcomes. It was a tough lesson in understanding that sometimes, leadership changes are necessary for growth, and although it can be challenging, it often paves the way for a stronger, more sustainable future.

What unconventional strategy did you employ that significantly impacted your business?

I believe with our current company, Intuitive Learning Solutions, we have changed the way post-acute clinicians will consume information.  Almost every learning platform in post-acute care is either slide-based presentations or how-to videos.  Instead of the traditional, hands-off approach, we developed courses that are interactive and practical, with tools that clinicians can immediately be used in their clinical interventions. Our focus has always been on creating learning experiences that are not only informative but also immediately usable, empowering clinicians to enhance their skills in real-time.

What’s something you wish you knew sooner that you’d give as advice for aspiring or newer entrepreneurs?

When starting a company, there’s often a rush to achieve “success,” which can look like more sales, more customers, or more services. This sense of urgency usually comes from the financial pressures of running a business, but it can also lead to anxiety and stress. That stress often results in rash decisions and blaming others for the lack of growth. What I’ve learned is that growing a business takes time, and along the way, you’ll face a lot of rejections. For me, the key was having the patience to realize that building a successful business is a marathon, not a sprint. Sometimes you go down a path, only to find it’s not the right one, and you have to pivot. Not everything is a “viral” moment. True success takes hard work, dedication, and a lot of patience.
