Solopreneurship Unlocked: How Drew Mehta Uses AI to Power ThinkFraction

Drew Mehta’s journey from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur is a masterclass in leveraging AI to solve real-world business problems. As the founder of ThinkFraction, Drew builds AI systems for companies without in-house capabilities, focusing on practical, impactful solutions. In this Wantrepreneur to Entrepreneur Spotlight, Drew shares how industry-defining tools like Claude Code have democratized innovation, allowing him to transition from corporate life to solopreneurship. His story is a testament to the power of listening, learning, and community—proving that entrepreneurial success is built on empathy, agility, and continuous growth.

Hi, Drew! Thanks for joining us today. Tell us about your business. Who do you serve, how do you serve them, and what's the impact that your business and work makes?

I build AI systems that solve real business problems — for companies that can't afford an AI team of their own. Twenty years as a product manager (Major League Baseball, then KKR) taught me the job never changes: find what a business actually needs, then build the one thing that moves a number. That's ThinkFraction — I start with the problem, not the tool, and build only what earns its place.

Tell us about the moment you finally felt like you went from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur.

In January when Claude Code was released. It really lowered the barrier to entry for anyone to build+ship anything. The name of the game now shifts to distribution which is where entrepreneurs like myself need to sharpen our skills and focus our efforts.

Describe the moment or period in your life/career that motivated you to make the entrepreneurial leap.

Not a single moment but an accumulation of moments that made me realize I was sacrificing my health, well being and precious time with my family and friends. And it was all to make billionaires more billions.

Describe a tool, service, or software that has been a game-changer for your business. How does it contribute to your success?

Claude Code, Hermes agent, Paperclip, Discord - all core tools that literally power thinkFraction. I have built agent teams that are my employees that work around the clock when needed. Making solopreneurship possible. Keeping the lights on for client builds, researching new AI releases, finding leads and biz dev partnerships. It's absolutely amazing.

We know that success is very often a non-linear path. Tell us about a failure, pivot point, or lesson that changed your course or direction and helped to get you where you are today.

Everyday is yields a lesson. There are moments that I question everything. Then I get an inquiry and my faith is restored. Or I think I've nailed down an SOP for client builds. Then a new wrinkle emerges that completely flips the script and I'm back to starting from zero on deployments for the next client.

What unconventional strategy did you employ that significantly impacted your business?

As a product manager, I lead with listening, learning to discover the customer pain point/opportunity and then measuring it - how much revenue is lost? How many customers inquire for a quote and receive a follow up to close? Never lead with AI or a solution.

What’s something you wish you knew sooner that you’d give as advice for aspiring or newer entrepreneurs?

I'm still learning a lot myself tbh but I would say that you are not alone. There is a vibrant community of entrepreneurs both on/offline that you can tap into. Shared experiences, lessons learned, even resources and connections. There are times that I have been able to assist someone and I see that as my way of paying it forward.
